What Causes Diastolic Pressure to Be High?

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

Means that as blood flows, too much force is exerted on the walls of the arteries. It exists when one's blood pressure goes above 160/95 mm. Hg. and remains at that level for a long time. It usually occurs among adults age 15 years and over.

What is BLOOD PRESSURE?
Is the force against the walls of the arteries as the blood is pumped out from the heart. It is always written as two numbers - systole and diastole. For example: 120(systole) and 70(diastole) is written as 120/70. The highest blood pressure which could be considered normal for healthy adults (above 15 years old) is 140/90.

RISK FACTORS:

1. Cigarette smoking
2. Eating too much salty and fatty foods
3. Obesity (overweight)
4. Lack of exercise
5. Drinking too much alcohol/liquor
6. Too much tension or stress

Since the risk factors are mostly behaviors that can be avoided or corrected, it is therefore clear that the condition can be prevented. The earlier the prevention in the life of a person, the greater is the chance that he will not suffer from this kind of disease.

IF NOT CONTROLLED IT MAY CAUSE:

1. Heart enlargement
2. Atherosclerosis (formation of fatty deposits in the inner layer of the arteries)

UNCONTROLLED HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE MAY RESULT TO THE FOLLOWING COMPLICATIONS:

1. Heart attack
2. Stroke
3. Kidney failure

Common Symptoms:

This kind of problem has been called the silent killer because to majority of people it does not have any symptoms at an early stage. To some people the symptoms of the disease include:

1. Headache
2. Pain at the back of the neck
3. Dizziness
4. Often nosebleeds

These symptoms may develop slowly. Regular medical examination is therefore a must to avoid having the disease.

SECONDARY HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

Is a condition, not caused by certain behaviors or lifestyle but caused by another health conditions. It may include some chronic kidney disease, pregnancy, using of birth control pills, Tumors, Addiction to alcohol, thyroid problems. There's no specific cause or reason why this disease appears but there are certain factors that doctors consider that surely contributes in developing in such a problematic disease.

That is why it's important to live a healthy life in a stress free atmosphere and do a lot of exercise everyday. People should be more aware about this kind of a killer condition to avoid early death and some bad complications.
